Cairo/Berlin (dpa) - Arab broadcaster al-Jazeera on Tuesday aired a video of a German construction engineer taken hostage in Afghanistan two weeks ago.
The voice of the hostage was barely audible in the video, but according to the al-Jazeera announcer he asks Germany and the United States to pull its troops out of Iraq in order to help him get back to his family.
The German is shown in a mountainous landscape surrounded by masked men pointing guns at him. It was not clear when the video might have been filmed.
A German foreign ministry spokesman described the video as a "document of intimidation" and said experts would analyize and evaluate the images.
The station also broadcast a second video, showing four Afghans taken captive with the German asking the Afghan government to give into the kidnappers' demands.
The 62-year-old German engineer was kidnapped on July 18 along with a colleague. The other man's gun-shot-riddled body was found several days later.
