Afghan police searching for kidnapped German national
Afghan police continue to search for a German convert to Islam who was kidnapped in western Afghanistan, according to Herat province police chief Mohammad Juma Adeel.
Police have been searching houses, but have found no sign of the German who was seized by armed gunmen on Sunday in circumstances that remain unclear.
Afghanistan’s intelligence service is also searching for the man who has been identified by German media as Harald Kleber, a 42-year-old carpenter from the Bavarian town of Amberg.
He was the fifth German kidnapped in Afghanistan this year. German engineer Rudolf Blechschmidt was released on October 10 after nearly three months in the hands of Afghan kidnappers.
