9 February 2005, GOETTINGEN - Prosecutors in Germany announced an investigation on Wednesday into reported Nazi war crimes allegedly committed by a now 83-year-old man in Goettingen. Authorities in the city in central Germany said they were looking into a BBC interview in which the man purportedly claimed to have taken part in a Nazi SS firing-squad execution of Jews in the Ukraine in 1941. GOETTINGEN - Prosecutors in Germany announced an investigation on Wednesday into reported Nazi war crimes allegedly committed by a now 83-year-old man in Goettingen.

Authorities in the city in central Germany said they were looking into a BBC interview in which the man purportedly claimed to have taken part in a Nazi SS firing-squad execution of Jews in the Ukraine in 1941.

The man, whose identity was not divulged, had hitherto not been linked to Nazi war crimes, prosecutors in Goettingen said.
