BERLIN - There were 147 reported right-wing extremist incidents last year in the German armed forces, a parliamentary report said Tuesday.

Most of the cases involved soldiers giving the stiff-armed Hitler salute, shouting "Sieg Heil!", or playing Nazi music, said the annual report.

Public display of Nazi symbols and giving the Hitler salute are banned under German law.

Germany's combined armed forces, the Bundeswehr, currently have about 280,000 troops and are being cut to 250,000 troops by 2010.
