22/12/2010World's cartoonists thrash Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders

World's cartoonists thrash Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders A furore over Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in 2005 sparked the idea of a counter-offensive by cartoonists around the world.

The international video journalist and cartoonists platform, VJ Movement, asked cartoonists in Islamic and other countries how they saw the increasing criticism of Islam in Europe.

The call produced 30 satirical drawings, most of them featuring Dutch rightwing anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders. Six are included in this article.

According to spokesman Tjeerd Rooyaards of The Hague-based VJ Movement, "Mr Wilders' face is well-suited to being caricatured". Next month, VJ movement will launch a separate platform, Cartoon Movement.

How sad that most of these cartoons have so little understanding of where Wilders is coming from. Holding BIble? The man is an Atheist. And Yes, indeed, he doesn't hate Muslims, just their holy book and ideology. This is a punch line?

How many of his critics has he beheaded over these cartoons so far?

Even though totally lacking artistic merit (in my opinion) and not remotely funny, these clumsy humourless cartoons DO sever a very useful purpose indeed; once again they demonstrate to the world the stark contrast between oppressive Islam (where people are programmed to react with outrage and erupt into violence on demand) and the rest of the world (Islam’s "Dar al Harb" or what it calls its "territory of war") where non-Muslims can think for themselves, see these cartoons for what they are (boring and irrelevant) and so just ignore them and get on with their lives.

Since these cartoons "insult" a non-Muslim (who does NOT happen to be a 7th century mass-murderer inspiring over a thousand years of copy-catting clones) therefore no mindless riots will result, nobody will die (unless murdered by frustrated Muslims disappointed by a lack of response), no property will be set on fire, no embassies will warn their citizens to stay indoor or not to travel.......

In exactly the same way - as been said by many others elsewhere - if you drop a bible in the toilet, and you've created art. But drop a Qur'an in the toilet, and you've committed a hate crime. Cartoons of "the prophet" (who actually never prophesised anything at all, but did inspire and incite 1,400 years of violent rage and anti-human monstrosities) are absolutely taboo (but only because we worry about people being attacked and murdered by Muslims carrying out "the teachings" of "the prophet".... under Sharia "law" all criticism - or even just objective thought about - Islam is forbidden and punishable by death).

The practitioners and supporters of Islam can carry on producing rigid humourless cartoons for as long as they like; I don't think anyone will notice or care and it will make a nice change from all their usual screaming and raging and demands to murder people..... all of which brave Geert Wilders has been correctly pointing out, and for which as a result he must now live under armed guard for as long as he can survive from being murdered by any of the more serious minded and determined followers of this "religion of peace".

How sick is it that there is even a term like Islamaphobia? This "culture" called Islam is hands down the most backward, barbaric, sexist, and violent on the planet. Yet when a politician stands up to it, his colleagues cower in fear that they may lose a few votes if they show courage too. Wilders is a hero for standing up for freedom. Yes the same freedoms that all of these cartoonists (at least the ones in the Western world) take for granted. I think many of these people forget how hard our forefathers had to fight to earn this freedom that we inherited. And now so many would just as soon give it up to Sharia.

Well well well,

I agree with all the people saying that "ISLAM" an ideology need to be reformed or updated. Most of the critic focus on the "book" and on the extremist ideology that is a result of war and poverty. Poor uneducated helpless people will turn extreme if you force them to, The problem lies in the foreign policies of the west towards third world countries that happen to be "islamic". After the collapse of the Soviet Union and "communism", it is time to create and eliminate a new enemy; "Islamic terrorism" and let us label all Muslims as terrorists. The Muslims should be the new Jews ?!!

It is a always a fight for domination and controlling resources. If the "people" in the west carry one slogan and their governments carry another, why should the poor uneducated backward-thinking barbaric Muslims hold higher moral grounds ? So we go to their land, steal their resources and then attack the only things that is left for them, the simple backward believe, believe is like a pain-killer to an existing problem which is unfair distribution and control of wealth.

I guess, if you want to be civilized and share your values, let them develop and progress. By destroying their countries and instituting puppet regimes, you will leave no choice but to create a desperate and crushed people who will seek desperate solution.

That is not important for greedy Capitalists since the only thing that matters is create a web that allows "business" to go as planned. Creating a new market and profit. Corporations are not evil by design but they mostly ignore the human aspects at first, people have to fight back to gain their rights form a designed system, system that is designed first to achieve profit and think later at other aspects that might arise from the implementation.
