Spanish court seeks CIA flight documents 01/02/2007 00:00
1 February 2007 Madrid (dpa) - Spain's National Court requested the Defence Ministry to hand over confidential secret service documents on flights of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) which are believed to have transported terrorist suspects via Spanish airports. DPA Subject: German news
Judge Ismael Moreno is investigating the transport of 12 suspects including German citizen Khaled el-Masri. Earlier on Wednesday, German prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 13 alleged CIA employees in connection with el-Masri's abduction.
Moreno declined a request by secondary accusers to issue similar arrest warrants.
He justified the need to declassify the documents with the "seriousness of the facts" and the need to carry out a full judicial investigation.
The CIA is thought to have transported prisoners through Spain in 2003 and 2004, mainly over Majorca and the Canary Islands.
