Keep angry and die, Ahmadinejad tells West 06/12/2006 00:00

6 December 2006

Tehran (dpa) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that Iran's resistance made the power of the West look flimsy.

"In one spot of this universe a nation has stood up and resisted and made the power of the West look flimsy," Ahmadinejad said in a speech in the northern Caspian Sea city of Ramsar which was carried by the news network Khabar.

Ahmadinejad was referring to Tuesday's meeting of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany in Paris which has so far failed to reach an agreement on imposing UN sanctions against Iran for its continuing nuclear programme.

The president said that the West has become helpless and angry over Iran, "but we say keep angry and die of this anger." He called on the West to revise its policies towards Iran "and return to spirituality or otherwise face their own collapse."

Ahmadinejad warned Tuesday that Iran would revise its diplomatic course with the European Union if the EU imposed sanctions on the Islamic state over its nuclear programme.

Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said Tuesday that Iran would continue its nuclear projects regardless of Western plans to punish the country's refusal to suspend uranium enrichment.
