Germany to deport Nigerian who lost citizenship 01/09/2006 00:00

1 September 2006

KARLSRUHE, GERMANY - A Nigerian-born man who lost his German citizenship for making false claims on his application form can be deported, a court ruled Friday.

The court turned down the man's appeal against an expulsion order issued after his passport was withdrawn when the irregularities came to light during police investigations into drug offences for which he was later convicted and served a three-year sentence.

Germany's constitutional court ruled in May that naturalized Germans could lose their citizenship if they provide false information in their application requests.

The man became stateless after the constitutional court ruling and has since gone underground, justice authorities said.
