Zurich boosts profits despite spate of natural disasters

Switzerlands largest insurance company, Zurich Financial Services, records a 76 percent rise in net profit for the first quarter of 2010 from the same period a year earlier, as a diversified portfolio offsets losses from natural disasters. Insuring property is a challenge with the unusually large number of earthquakes and other catastrophes at the start of this year, but other businesses are prospering including its global life and American Farmers divisions.
