On New Year's Eve, the legendary fireworks display enchants spectators in the Zürich lake basin.
On New Year's Eve, the legendary New Year's Eve fireworks display enchants spectators in the Zürich lake basin. Each year, around 200,000 party-goers from Switzerland and abroad visit the country’s biggest New Year’s Eve party to gaze up at the brightly lit night sky.
The festivities kick off at 8 p.m. with drinks and culinary delights from all over the world, followed by a countdown to the new year and the famous New Year's Eve fireworks of the Zurich hoteliers’ association.
A festive atmosphere on the banks of Lake Zurich
The festival area stretches right around the city shores of Lake Zurich – from the Limmatquai through Hechtplatz and up to the Utoquai as well as over the Quaibrücke at Bellevue as far as the General-Guisan-Quai.
The festival area is open to everyone. There is no entrance fee. Public toilets can be found on the Rathausbrücke, in the Stadthaus complex and on Bürkliplatz and Bellevueplatz. The Quaibrücke and the Limmatquai will be accessible to pedestrians only from 20:00 on 31 December 2010 to 6:00 on 1 January 2011.
