The first day of negotiations between world powers and Iran on Tehran's controversial nuclear programmes has ended, and discussions will resume on Tuesday, a Western official said in Geneva.

"Talks have adjourned for the evening and will resume tomorrow," a Western official said late Monday.

An AFP reporter witnessed the Iranian delegation leaving the building of the Swiss mission to the United Nations, after it met officials from the European Union, Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States following a 14-month break.
