WTO to rule on first complaint brought by Vietnam
The World Trade Organization said Tuesday it would rule on the first complaint brought by Vietnam to the trade body over anti-dumping measures imposed by the United States on frozen shrimps.
A spokesman from the WTO said that a "panel was established" by the dispute settlement mechanism to rule on the issue.
In its complaint filed to the trade body, Vietnam said that its shrimp exporters faced "highly prejudical and unjustifiable" punitive tariffs ranging from 4.13 percent to 25.76 percent.
But the US challenged Vietnam's claims, saying that some of the proceedings were initiated before the Southeast Asian country joined the trade body, and could therefore not be subjected to review by the WTO's panel.
