Urine holds promise for fertilizing farmers' fields

Swiss scientists in Dbendorf are pioneering research into ways to recycle human urine into products that can be used to improve crop production while benefiting the environment. The topic may be a source of bathroom humour, but the Bill & Belinda Gates Foundation, which this week donated three million dollars to advance the technology through a project in South Africa, is clearly not treating it as a laughing matter.
