The United Arab Emirates said Wednesday that President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan is recovering after undergoing unspecified medical treatment in Switzerland.

Sheikh Khalifa, also the ruler of UAE's capital Abu Dhabi, had "undergone comprehensive medical tests, after which he received the necessary medical treatment which was successful," said the ministry of presidential affairs.

The 62-year-old was in "good heath and will return home after a period of convalescence," it said without elaborating in a statement carried by the official WAM news agency.

The president has been spending part of the hot summer season in the French town of Evian, on Lake Geneva, with Emirati newspapers carrying reports of him receiving UAE dignitaries at his residence.
