Switzerland and Austria signed a deal on Wednesday to share tax information.

Bern -- Switzerland and Austria signed a deal on Wednesday to share tax information, the Swiss government said, after agreeing to tighten its banking secrecy laws under pressure from world powers.

The deal, which allows the exchange of tax information under certain conditions, was the 11th bilateral agreement signed by Switzerland to get off the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s tax haven list.

The Swiss government was hurt by its inclusion in April on the OECD list, part of an international clampdown on tax evasion as a result of the financial crisis.
