The Swiss Foreign Ministry on Tuesday lifted restrictions on travel to parts of Tunisia, including the capital Tunis and some coastal areas.

"The situation is still not stable," it said however.

"It is not advisable to go to Tunisia for tourism or other non-urgent travel, with the exception of the capital Tunis and seaside resorts," the ministry said on its website.

Following the revised travel advisory, Swiss tour operator Kuoni announced that it would resume travel to some Tunisian destinations.

Switzerland had earlier warned against all non-urgent travel to Tunisia due to the popular uprising that led to the ouster of strongman Zine El Abidine Ben Ali a month ago.

In January, a Swiss citizen with Tunisian nationality was killed by a stray bullet during a demonstration in the North African country.
