Demonstrators are expected to gather Saturday in the Swiss cities of Zurich, Geneva and Basel for protests modelled after the anti-Wall Street marches against US authorities and the banking industry.

About 1,000 demonstrators are expected to meet from 0800 GMT at Zurich's Paradeplatz, the iconic site where both UBS and Credit Suisse are located.

"We aim to be peaceful, all other types of behaviour would be counter-productive," said Fabian Fuhrer, an activist from the Swiss branch of 'We are change'.

"Banks have more say than the citizens. It should not be so. This should change," said Fuhrer.

"We hope that many people would join us" on Saturday, he added.

Swiss authorities have not issued an authorisation for the demonstration, but the organisers said the march would go on "no matter what."

On the Facebook group 'Occupy Paradeplatz', which counts 800 participants on Monday, organisers explained that the Swiss demonstrations would be part of a worldwide movement on Saturday.

The Occupy Wall Street protests, which started on September 17 in a New York park, have since spread across the United States.
