The organiser of a concert with US singer Prince, which was twice postponed and later cancelled without any reason, was charged with fraud by a Swiss court on Wednesday.

"In terms of the 'Prince concert' case, the examining magistrate confirms having indicted this morning Daniel Quarcoopome for fraud," the Geneva judiciary said in a statement.

"The organiser of the said event was taken in for questioning and remanded on Tuesday," it said.

Quarcoopome was to have staged the concert on July 12, a day after the World Cup finals, but later postponed the gig to July 23. The event never took place.

The judiciary said a Swiss ticket vendor had advanced hundreds of thousands of francs to Quarcoopome's company for him to organise the concert.

It would give no additional information about the case.
