The SolarImpulse team headed by Lausanne adventurer Bertrand Piccard successfully launches a solar-powered aircraft from the Payerne airfield in Vaud on Wednesday morning in a bid to make a historic first 24-hour journey. Co-founder of the project Andr Borschberg is at the controls of the slender four-engined plane, aiming to fly it through the night in the run-up to a planned round-the-world trip in 2012.
