Movie director Roman Polanski issues a statement on the Internet urging Switzerland to reject a request by US authorities to extradite him over his 33-year-old conviction for having sex with a 13-year-old girl. Polanski, under house arrest in his Gstaad chalet, argues that he fled America before he was to be sentenced in 1978 because of judicial misconduct in the case, although a Swiss justice official tells Swisster his comments are not relevant.
