Over 1,200 Africans arrived safely in Chad from south Libya
Over 1,200 sub-Saharan Africans have arrived safely in Chad after a long and at times dangerous road journey out of southern Libya, the International Organization for Migration said Thursday.
During their evacuation, the group encountered an armed vehicle which "took everything and they said, go away," said one Chadian migrant.
The evacuees were from 12 nationalities, although most were Chadians and Nigerians.
Another round of evacuation is expected to take place, said IOM, which is beginning its preparations for the operation.
In July, the inter-governmental agency had helped a group of 1,400 migrants to leave Libya by plane.
