New I. Coast envoy takes up post at UN Geneva
The United Nations said Thursday that the man named by Ivory Coast's internationally recognised leader Alassane Ouattara as his envoy to the UN's European headquarters, has arrived to take up his post.
The world body said Ivory Coast's new ambassador, Kouadio Adjoumani, presented his credentials Thursday to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva.
Adjoumani, a career diplomat, was previously his country's ambassador to the Netherlands. He had also served as ambassador to Britain and Ireland.
While the international community recognises Ouattara as the victor of Ivory Coast's November 28 presidential election, incumbent strongman Laurent Gbagbo has refused to step down.
