To mark a visit by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Russia has given Bern two orphaned bear cubs.

Geneva – Russia has given two orphaned bear cubs to the Swiss capital Berne, to mark a visit next week by President Dmitry Medvedev, the city's authorities announced Wednesday.

The seven-month-old cubs, one male and one female, were found by forest rangers in Russia's Far East.

The bears arrived in Berne on Monday and after their quarantine will be put in a new bear park to be opened in the city next month, authorities said.

The bear is the emblem of Berne and Russia, whose president is due to start a two day state visit next Monday.
