Libyan Labour Minister al-Amin Manfur announced his defection at the annual meeting of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Libya's UN mission said on Tuesday.

"Yes we can confirm," said an official at the Libyan representation, when asked about a report in Switzerland's official media Swissinfo on the minister's defection.

Envoys at the mission collectively announced their defection in February.

"I would first like to announce here my defection from the Kadhafi regime as head of the labour and employment sector in Libya," Swissinfo quoted the Libyan minister as saying.

"I want to say frankly that I am not with the regime any longer from now and I would also express my support and my sympathy to the revolution and the revolutionists," Manfur said.

He vowed to add his "efforts to the National Transition Council and its people, respected people, to establish a future for Libya and build a democratic state in the near future."
