The European Commission inspected offices of Novartis subsidiary Sandoz Wednesday for suspected violations.

Zurich -- Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis said Wednesday that offices of its subsidiary Sandoz were inspected by the European Commission investigating suspected competition violations.

"The French offices of Sandoz were raided" on Tuesday, a Novartis spokesman said, without giving further details.

He added that European authourities had not sought further information from the group and that the firm would cooperate with the European Commission.

Investigators inspected at least two other European pharmaceutical giants -- Sanofi-Aventis and a French subsidiary of Germany's Ratiopharm -- on Tuesday over suspected antitrust violations.

The Commission did not detail the companies or countries involved and said the investigation followed no deadlines.
