Bombardier wins Swiss rail deal
Swiss state railway on Wednesday announced its biggest ever order of 59 trains from Canadian group Bombardier for about 1.9 billion Swiss francs (1.4 billion euros, 1.7 billion dollars).
"The SBB made the most significant order of rolling stock in its history," Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) said of its deal with the Canadian group's Swiss subsidiary, Bombardier Transportation Switzerland SA.
"The deal is worth about 1.9 billion Swiss francs," it added.
SBB also has an option to buy more than 100 additional trains, it said.
Delivery of the new double-decker trains will be made between 2012 and 2019. The first will begin running in 2013.
Bombardier said most of the rolling stock will be produced at its two Swiss plants.
