Army recruit uses military weapon to kill teenage girl
A 21-year-old Swiss army recruit admitted shooting dead a teenage girl at a bus stop in Zurich
A 21-year-old Swiss army recruit who admitted shooting dead a teenage girl at a bus stop in Zurich had used his service weapon, the public prosecutor's office confirmed Tuesday.
The self-confessed killer had just completed his military training. The girl, aged 16, died instantly after being hit in the chest on Friday.
A witness had reported seeing a young man dressed in combat fatigues near the bus stop.
Earlier this year the Swiss Government agreed a change in the law, under pressure from campaigners protesting at the number of Swiss murders carried out using army service guns.
New laws permit men who have completed their military service to continue to keep their weapons at home but ammunition is now banned.
