American tenor brings Lausanne opera house down

American tenor, Lawrence Brownlee is not the only pleasant surprise of Lausanne Operas Italian girl in Algiers by Rossini. The production destroys the idea that opera is only for a self-aggrandizing elite by offering a show that is joyous, entertaining and incisive. Joined by other outstanding singers, Brownlee plays a guy rescued by the girl, not bad for an opera written 200 years ago.
