Albrecht’s doctor says the Swiss skiing champion will recover from his injuries.

ZURICH - Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht, who awoke Thursday from an artificial coma induced following a crash in January, will make a full recovery from his injuries, his doctor said.

However the University of Innsbruck's Dr Stefan Schmid, speaking to Swiss television, said Albrecht could suffer from breathing problems after contracting a serious lung infection following the crash.

"From a physical perspective he (Albrecht) will make a full recovery", he told German-speaking channel SF Friday.

Albrecht, 25, the former world super-combined champion, crashed after landing awkwardly from the final jump on the famed Kitzbuehel downhill run in late January.

He suffered brain trauma, a slight collapse of lung tissue, and pneumonia.

Schmid said the first stages of the skier's rehabilitation could take weeks and added, "We will be trying to encourage him to walk around in the coming days".
