ABB wins largest ever power link order from Germany

Swedish-Swiss engineering group ABB said Friday it has won its largest ever power link order, a contract worth 700 million dollars from Germany's transmission grid operator Transpower.

Under the deal, the firm will provide a 800-megawatt power link to connect offshore wind farms in the North Sea to Germany's grid.

"This is the largest power transmission order in ABB's history," the firm said of the project which is due to be operational in 2013.

ABB is due to report its second quarter earnings on July 22.
