12,500 awaiting evacuation from Tunisia-Libya border: UNHCR
The UNHCR said Friday around 12,500 people are awaiting evacuation on the Tunisian side of the border with Libya, and that it was seeing significant progress in efforts to ease congestion at the frontier.
"Thanks to a rapid response from the international community, significant progress has been made with the evacuation of Egyptians and other nationalities from Tunisia," said Melissa Fleming, spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
"A total of around 12,500 people still need evacuation. Over 10,000 are from Bangladesh," she said, adding that two flights are planned for Bangladesh Friday.
