Welcome to the Bee Hive Pre-School,
a family friendly and flexible Montessori oriented school for early childhood education.

For each child, the teachers design a programme of tuition, which is carried out partly in a group and partly on an individual basis.

The aim of the school is to provide a planned structure in which children are able to explore, experiment, plan and make decisions for themselves.

A team of eight carefully selected loving teachers with highly social competences and the headmistress guarantee for a well balanced, integral programme. We cultivate a steady teacher training in many learning areas such as personal, social and cognitive competencies.

We give each child the chance to develop and learn at his own pace while at the same time providing emotional support and encouragement.

We are proud of our strong children which are curious for more learning experiences.

GSS follows the English National Curriculum for students aged 11 to 16. In the first three years (often known as Key Stage 3) all students follow a broad curriculum of general academic subjects. At the end of year 3 the curriculum content becomes more specific as students begin a two year programme (Key Stage 4) leading to IGCSE examinations. As a recognized Edexcel Centre we are able to ensure that all examinations take place here in school. As a small school, with all of the advantages that this offers, we are consequently not able to offer all of the subjects (and the list is enormous) available for IGCSE examination. The exact make-up of the KS4 curriculum will be decided in consultation with parents and students towards the end of Year 3.

If you would like more information about Key Stages 3 and 4 you can find all of the details including subject specifications and attainment levels by visiting www.qca.org.uk

The core curriculum for years 1,2 and 3 consists of the following subjects:

• Mathematics
• English
• French
• Science
• History
• Geography
• Computers (ICT)
• Culture

Wednesday afternoons have been deliberately kept free of regular tuition in order to allow students to pursue subjects or activities which are not offered as part of the main curriculum.

The International School Berne (ISBerne), established in 1961, is a day school providing an international education in English for over 250 students from diplomatic, academic and business families in the Berne area and the surrounding cantons. The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

The multicultural nature of ISBerne and its international programmes make the school unique in the region. Staff and students from over 40 nationalities make a truly multicultural atmosphere. Small classes and dedicated teachers ensure an individualized approach to learning. The local environment enables ISBerne to provide a unique and rich learning experience in the heart of Switzerland.

ISBerne is an IB World School authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes: the Primary Years Programme (ages 3 –11) in the ELC and the Elementary School and the Middle Years Programme (ages 11 –16) and the Diploma Programme (ages 16 –19) in the Secondary School. The IB Diploma is recognized around the world as a premier University entrance qualification. The IB programmes, taught in over 2600 schools worldwide, ensure a smooth and easy transfer for students to and from schools anywhere in the world.

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally-minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

The school has an EAL programme for non-English speakers and a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Programme and College Guidance Service. The varied programme offers ice skating and skiing/snowboarding in winter, Model United Nations, field trips at all grades and an enrichment and after-school sports programme.

Facilities include a gymnasium, computer labs, science labs, art rooms, a Drama Studio, and music rooms. Extensive use of local facilities for athletics, theatre, and music productions enable the school to complement its programme.

ISW-International School Winterthur

The International School Winterthur, a non-profit organization, opened its doors in 2002 to serve the growing international community in the greater Zurich and Winterthur areas. Since then, the school has continued to grow in many ways.

Our students and families represent more than 34 nationalities. We offer a full day school to all students with the choice of half-day for Early Years¹ (EY)1 and a full-day programme for all students from Early Years to grade 10.  We will add grade 11 in August 2010 and grade 12 in August 2011.

The breadth and depth of our curricular programmes, delivered in a nurturing environment, follows the International Baccalaureate Organization Programme (IBO). The Early Years¹ (EY) 1 and 2 (ages 3-4), the Primary Years¹ (PYP) (ages 5-10), the Middle Years¹  (MYP) (ages 11-16) and the Diploma (DP) (ages 17-18) Programmes combine the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and expertise from international schools to create a relevant and engaging educational experience. We are officially recognized as an IBO world school having received PYP authorization in May 2006. We have applied for MYP authorization, and this is scheduled for the Fall in 2009, and the Diploma Programme (DP) authorization will follow in the Spring of 2010.

The language of instruction is English. Students for whom English is not their mother tongue are provided with English as an Additional Language (EAL) support. Additional languages include German for students in Kindergarten through to grade 10 and French and Mandarin as electives for grades 6 through 10. Mandarin is also offered as an after-school club.

The academic programme is enhanced through other learning experiences. For example, the Middle Years¹ students are involved in a Robotics Programme which is incorporated into the curriculum; furthermore, the Programme is also being offered as an after school activity.  In addition, student field trips in and around Switzerland are taken throughout the year to further enhance our programs.
