Bars in Zurich Expatica and Out and About give you five of the best bars in Zurich.

Widder Bar
Widdergasse 6, Kreis 1

 Widder Bar
The Widder bar combines wood, leather, and glass (and some weirdly overt statutes of ram-men proudly displaying their genitalia) with a huge selection of whiskey for one of the oldest and cosiest bars in town. A traditional source of high-calibre live jazz for decades.

Odeon
Limmatquai 2, Kreis 1

odeon
A Zurich institution, this jugendstil coffee house and bar has been around since 1911. The former meeting place of intellectuals is more of a see-and-be-seen locale in these days. When the weather is warm, we dare you to walk the outdoor gauntlet under critical gazes from the excruciatingly hip and you'll see what we mean. The
atmosphere gets gayer - and livelier - as the evening wears on.

Moods
Schiffbaustrasse 6, Kreis 5
 044 276 80 00

The No.1 spot for jazz is becoming an international magnet for top musicians; it also hosts evenings dedicated to blues, funk, and electronic music. Sundays are non-smoking.

Jules Verne Panorama Bar
Uraniastrasse 9, Kreis 1

The top of Zurich's observatory offers a 360-degree view of the old town, but seating is limited so come early. Most crowds appear on Saturday afternoon, just after most stores close. Enter on the street level through the Brasserie Lipp and take the elevator to the top.

Seerose
Seestrasse 493, 8038 Zurich-Wolishofen
044 481 63 83

That Website name is unfortunately not a typo, but never mind, the location is breathtaking - a lily pad dock that sticks out onto the lake and holds a glass-enclosed main structure surrounded by a deck furnished with a bar, a lounge with comfy deckchairs and a linen-covered formal "dinning" area. Those with private boats make an entrance by tying directly up to the dock.

Expatica's top 5 list is brought to you in collaboration with Out and About.

About Out and About
If you’re new in town, get advice on both enjoying and surviving Zurich. If you’ve been here a while, there is still stuff to discover. Did you know there are restaurants in town that actively seek out expat customers by offering treats only we could love (stewed tomatoes for breakfast)? And did you know that local businesses hold readings, offer special walking tours, and arrange other events just for us?

Log on, check it out and make www.outandabout.ch your start page – you’ll get the latest information every time you start up!

Lots of us expats are used to non smoking venues, now that many of our home countries have chosen this path. The bars above might be 5 of the best bars in Zurich....but they're also amongst the smokiest! I can't wait until Zurich goes smoke free, but in the meantime, it would be good to know where we can socialise without the cigarette fog!
