EuroPride 09 celebrates 40 years of gay rights with cultural and sporting events in Zurich between 2 May and 7 June.

40 years of pride

“Celebrating 40 years with pride” is the motto of EuroPride 09 in Zurich, commemorating the gay rights movement that formed in 1969 after police raids on New York’s Stonewall bar. The event runs from 2 May - 6 June, offering cultural and sporting events, seminars, discussions and a parade.

EuroPride 09 begins with the Pink Apple film festival and the cultural events of Warmer Mai, accompanied by panel discussions and seminars on diversity management, homosexuality in schools, gay and lesbian parenting and being out in the workplace.

Hundreds of athletes from Europe are expected for the sports events during the last weekend of May. The program ends with a final weekend of cultural events, a gala dinner, a city festival on 5 and 6 June as well as the EuroPride parade.
