Family activities in Basel and Bern Anne Monstad of Mamizeit lists indoor and outdoor activities in Basel and Bern to entertain the whole family.

On a sunny day, Switzerland is a picture-perfect country with numerous lakes framed by jaw-dropping mountains. During these beautiful days it is hard to imagine that Switzerland is also blessed with rain… sometimes torrential downpours. Since this country offers all kinds of weather, Anne Monstad of Mamizeit lists indoor and outdoor activities to entertain the whole family.

BASEL


Dampfbahn
A mini steam engine located by the Psychiatrichen Universitaetsklinik in Basel, the dampfbahn offers rides every second Sunday from mid-April to mid-October.

Wiesner's Beeriland

This berry-picking farm is open from June to September. Check the website for fruit availability.

Park im Grunen 
One of the largest recreation areas in Bern, this park has a playground with a “climbing castle”, slides and wooden huts, as well as a mini-golf course and restaurant.

Museum of Communication
The Museum of Communication offers interactive exhibits to familiarise visitors with various media in a hands-on way.

Zentrum Paul Klee
The centre includes a children’s museum with creative activities for visitors of all ages.

Zoo Tierpark Dählhölzli
The Bern Zoo offers a petting zoo, pony rides and a playground in addition to guided tours of animal living areas.

Seilpark Gantrisch
Offers ropes courses and children’s trails in the forested Gantrisch region from May through October. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Gurten Park im Grünen
The Berner Traumberge offers views of the city and the Alps, along with play areas, a kids train, hiking trails and restaurants.

Ballenberg Open Air Museum

Ballenberg in Brienz presents rural Swiss life from the past, with century-old buildings, farm animals, traditional gardens and fields, local craft demonstrations and special events.
