UTRECHT – The Cyclists' Union wants all provinces to contribute to its cycling route planner by next year, a spokesperson of the union said Thursday.
The route planner is on the cycling organisation's website and currently contains all cycling routes in the province of Utrecht. Visitors to the site can enter various profiles, for the route that is shortest, fastest or encounters the least car traffic, for instance. The route can then be printed or downloaded to a PDA.
The Cyclists' Union was honoured in Utrecht on Thursday with an award for the cycling planner in the run up to the Cycling and Walking Fair (2 and 3 February). The jury of the trade fair organisation described the initiative as "extremely innovative."
Cycling route planners are also available for Zuid-Holland and the Amsterdam region.
