7 January 2008

CARACAS - An all-out search continues in Venezuela on Monday for a small aeroplane carrying 12 tourists and two pilots after it was reported missing late Friday.

Officials said the search has involved the use of a ship, three motor boats of the Venezuelan navy and six helicopters. Passengers on the missing aircraft included eight Italians, three Venezuelans and a Swiss national.

There were reports that an oil slick had been spotted about 40 kilometres off the coast of Los Roques, where the plane was headed on Friday.

The aircraft is owned by the small Trahnsaven firm and took off from the capital of Caracas for the Los Roques national park in the Caribbean. The pilots reported technical problems shortly before landing.
