Berne - Anti-globalization demonstrators clashed with police in the Swiss capital Berne on Saturday, with officers using tear gas to try to disperse protestors as they came under fire from bottles.

Police arrested 200 demonstrators, the SDA news agency reported. No injuries were reported.

Riot police were already in position after permission for the march ahead of next week's annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos in eastern Switzerland, was refused by the city authorities.

Trouble broke out shortly after in the city's Old Town area, according to the Swiss news agency ATS/SDA, when dozens of demonstrators gathered.
