Liege | 14/05/2009 - 28/06/2009 De Demain à Delvaux

Inaugural exhibition putting the spotlights on the major works by the Belgian Surrealist artist Paul Delvaux (1897-1994), featuring stations, trains and tramways. Works that created his reputation of being a ‘painter of train stations’. The first part of the show concentrates on the 1920-1930 period, featuring watercolours and sketches, in a style influenced by artists such as Monet or Turner. The second part presents a series of canvas and panel paintings shedding light on Delvaux’s departure from his old style, a period after which he went on to create his greatest masterpieces. Furthermore the exhibition presents scale models and pictures that illustrate Delvaux’s fascination with railways from childhood.
