VRT to join forces with Netflix

News of the collaboration has been confirmed by the General Manager of VRT Jean Philip De Tender. Meanwhile, speaking in an interview with the VRT television’s current affairs programme ‘Koppen’, the Netfix CEO Reed Hastings said that six VRT programme’s will soon be available to watch on Netflix.

Netflix currently provides a video-on-demand service to 50 million users worldwide. As we reported yesterday the service is soon to launch here in Belgium.

For a monthly subscription, viewers can watch as many films and series from the Netflix range as they want.

Netflix can be used on all internet-enabled devices from smartphones, through tablets and PCs to smart TVs.

In short the services allows its subscribers to watch their favourite series and films when they want, where they want and for as long as they want.

The VRT is keen to adapt to the changing viewing habits.

Jean Philip De Tender told VRT News that “In the first instance this is service for media users that on the one hand wish to watch live and direct and the other want to watch when it suits them.

This is why the VRT is trying to be present with its services on as many platforms as possible.

"This is in addition to the series that we sell, meaning that money flows back to the VRT. This is money that we can invest in new series. Some of the money goes straight to our partners in co-production”.
