European low cost carriers have launched a joint appeal. They want air traffic control in Europe to be organised along the same lines as in the United States.

At present air traffic control is split up among the different European countries.

Ryanair's Michael O'Leary says that this makes the whole operation inefficient. A reorganisation could also cut CO2 emissions.

The low cost companies want one single European air traffic control authority to be created with national centres turned into regional subsidiaries of the European authority.
