Zulte Waregem sorely needed another victory going into the match with only 4 out of 15.

After a hesitant beginning in their home stadium, Zulte Waregem upped the pressure. Kevin Roelandts scored in the 21st minute for the home team. Before half-time Gent lost a man when the referee gave Khalilou Fadiga a red card for elbowing (lightly) an opponent. A questionable red card, critics say.

Nevertheless, Gent started the second half with a fighting spirit and an equaliser by newcomer Marko Suler.

But Waregem kept the 3 points at home with another goal by Leandro Barrios bringing the score to the final 2-1.

Racing Gent bow for Germinal Beerschot

Another defeat for Racing Gent- the sixth in the season. The last time Gent won was December 14.

The play was wide open with ample chance to score on both sides. Going into the second half, the score was still 0-0. Only in the 63rd minute did Germinal score with a goal by Ederson. But answering tit for tat, Tom Soetaers (photo) equalised a minute later.

But Gent were unable to hold off Beerschot and Sanharib Malki took his team to the lead. Hernan Losada sealed the victory with a third goal and a final score of 1-3.

In the overall standings Club Brugge are still in the lead with 48 points. Standard trail by 3 points and Cercle Brugge are in third place on 44 points. Germinal Beerschot, in 4th place, have 40 points, followed by Anderlecht and AA Gent.

Sint Truiden and FC Brussels are at the bottom of the pack in the overall standings.
