BRUSSELS — A youth allegedly inflicted the four stab wounds to the young Slovak male who was the victim of an apparently racist attack in Tienen on Saturday night.
Authorities said the youth — who was arrested with two other underage suspects on Monday — has confessed to police, news agency Belga reported on Tuesday.
Justice authorities also arrested on Monday two adult suspects, both of whom have confessed as well, the Leuven public prosecution office said.
The stabbing took place on Saturday night in the Beaudouinstraat in Tienen.
Two young Slovaks came across a group of skinheads by chance. The skinheads then started chasing the Slovaks for an undisclosed reason.
One of the youths escaped, but the second was collared and attacked. He was kicked, beaten and stabbed and abandoned on the street.
Police immediately suspected the attack was racially motivated and the Leuven public prosecution office started taking witness statements on Sunday.
Based on those statements, the first three suspects were identified and arrested.
The initial statements from the suspects were contradictory and the public prosecution office has not ruled out further arrests.
