BRUSSELS — The number of workplace accidents in Belgium has fallen by 25 percent in the past five years.
However, there were still 103 fatalities, newspaper 'Le Soir' reported on Wednesday.
Men accounted for 76 percent of the fatalities.
In 2005, some 190,000 workers in the private sector were involved in an accident at the workplace.
Among them was a worker at the Tihange nuclear plant who seriously burnt his hand in a welding accident.
But workplace accidents have fallen by 25 percent in five years.
This is due to improvements in the workplace and preventative measures taken, the annual report from the industrial accidents compensation fund indicated.
Nevertheless, some EUR 181.6 million in compensation was awarded to victims last year by the industrial accidents fund.
