Verhofstadt leads Open VLD list

12 April 2007, BRUSSELS – Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt will be the leading candidate for the Liberal Flemish Liberals VLD in the elections on 10 June. The national party executive has unanimously approved the draft list of candidates. All that remains is for the party members to approve the list.

BRUSSELS – Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt will be the leading candidate for the Liberal Flemish Liberals VLD in the elections on 10 June. The national party executive has unanimously approved the draft list of candidates. All that remains is for the party members to approve the list.

Verhofstadt is followed on the list by Nele Lijnen, Patrick Vankrunkelsven at number three, Annemie Turtelboom at four, Luc Willems, Stéphanie Anseeuw and Stef Goris at numbers five, six, and seven.

Tenth place is a familiar debutant: Jean-Jacques De Gucht, son of Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht. Geert Messiaen, leader of the liberal alliance, is at number seventeen.
