BRUSSELS - Herman Van Rompuy has started on his exploratory mission. On Wednesday he held a few talks, the serious work started on Thursday.
Van Rompuy immediately met with appointed formateur and leader of his party Yves Leterme on Wednesday evening. A talk with party chairperson Jo Vandeurzen followed.
The today the minister of state planned to meet with the chairman of the Flemish liberals, Bart Somers. Van Rompuy will presumably be meeting with the other party leaders later on as well.
Presumably, because there have not been any announcements. Van Rompuy is determined to be very discreet while carrying out his task.
Herman Van Rompuy was given an "exploratory mission" by the king on Wednesday afternoon. The Flemish Christian Democrats CD&V member, who has already been a part of the negotiations so far, is expected to get the deadlocked formation talks back on track.
