BRUSSELS – Unemployment and bankruptcy figures have fallen by more than 4 percent compared to the month of October, newly released figures have revealed.
Figures for November 2003 look promising – not only are there fewer unemployed people than in the previous month, but figures show an 8 percent decrease in unemployment compared to the same period last year.
The results are better than authorities had predicted, with the number of registered bankruptcies in the country going down for the first time this year.
A total of 611 businesses were declared bankrupt last month, 5 percent fewer than in November 2002.
The trend is also positive on an annual basis observers say, adding that the relatively low number of insolvencies is a break with the recent trend.
The confidence of investors and consumers seems to be growing during a time when redundancies are becoming ever more commonplace.
The automobile market is also continuing its recovery, with 10 percent more cars registered last month than in November of last year.
