BRUSSELS - Belgian train drivers unions are threatening a country-wide strike on Tuesday afternoon, a move which could mean delays and travel chaos for thousands of evening commuters.

As Expatica was updated the Syndicat Autonome des Conducteurs de Train (SACT) said it was planning to call the strike between 3pm and 9pm on Tuesday.

The union said it was preparing for last-minute talks with Belgian rail operator SNCB to see if the stoppages could be avoided but the tone ahead of the meeting was not optimistic.

The SACT is unhappy at plans to change train drivers' working practices.

The union represents around half of Belgium's French-speaking train drivers.
