Two minors confess to fire at Brussels' sport centre

Two boys aged 13 and 16 started the fire at a disused sport centre which killed two firefighters.

BRUSSELS -- Two boys have admitted starting the fire at a disused sport centre on the Dieweg in Ukkel on Saturday afternoon which killed two firefighters.

One of the boys turned himself in to the police. The other boy was detained later. The boys are 13 and 16 years old.

The fire brigade was called to fight the fire on Saturday. Firemen entered the vacant sports centre and were looking for possible squatters when a big explosion took place. The fire quickly spread and dozens of streets in the area were cordoned off.

Two firefighters, aged 35 and 55 died in the blaze.
