Two dead, two rescued from Antwerp fire

5 August 2005, BRUSSELS — Two people were killed and two others were slightly hurt when fire broke out in an Antwerp home on Friday morning.

BRUSSELS — Two people were killed and two others were slightly hurt when fire broke out in an Antwerp home on Friday morning.

The fire broke out at about 4.30am in a home on the Suikerrui and rapidly spread throughout the building.

The flames soon broke through the roof and surrounding buildings were evacuated.

The fire brigade rescued two residents from the building with the help of a fire ladder, newspaper 'Het Gazet van Antwerpen' reported.
 
The two injured victims were taken to hospital for treatment, but were released soon after.

When firefighters had the blaze under control, the body of a dead woman was found on the first floor of the building.

The body of a man was found on the floor above.
